St. Joe's Prep Defeats Conwell-Egan in PCL Opener

FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. — “That’s just our culture.”

In a 3-0 win over Conwell-Egan on Wednesday, St. Joseph’s Prep Head Coach John McIntyre’s team showed off the culture he’s built as he enters his third season at the helm of the program. 

“You come, and you work,” McIntyre said about the mentality he instills in his players. “It doesn’t matter if you are number one to 30; we are deep and were able to use our bench today, which wore (Egan) out… During the summer, with extra workouts, they came to practice in shape, which helped our seniors grow to become leaders.”

Wednesday’s match was another showing of the gritty, tough style of soccer the Hawks play. After a half of knocking on the door but not finding a score against Eagles goalkeeper Krystian Momot ‘27, McIntyre preached patience to his team.

“Be more patient on the inside [of the] 30 [yard box], be unselfish, and trust each other.” 

That patience paid off as the Hawks soared early in the second half as Athan Zografakis ‘27 scored in the 44th minute, followed by goals from Liam Waldron ‘27 (48th) and Dom Quallet ‘27 (54th). 

Now on a three-game win streak, McIntyre is confident in his Hawks as they continue their Philadelphia Catholic League season. 

“We need to compete against great teams like the one we just played,” McIntyre said. “If we play as we did in that second half, we’re going to be a tough team to beat going forward.”

The Prep will host Archbishop Wood on September 11 at 7 p.m. at Penn Park in its second PCL game of the year.
