About
hawk talk

Student-created, student-driven.

Hawk Talk is a student produced weekly-news show that airs on Wednesday mornings. Our team includes students from 10th, 11th, and 12th grade, serving in a variety of roles such as on-air hosts, sound engineers, videographers, script writers, and more. We utilize the first floor of the Howley Learning Commons to film the majority of our segments, while also mixing in some famous locations around the school.

Our news show has quickly become an integral part of the student journalism presence at the Prep, offering students experience in multiple different roles, both on and off the air. We bring updates to our school community, ranging from daily announcements to recent sports and activities updates, while also including different segments, such as club spotlights, faculty trivia, challenges, and more.

Hawk Talk was founded in the fall of 2024 by Ian Donnelly '24 and Liam Shields '24. The ideas was sparked when these students realized there was potentional for creating a new staple of student-life at the Prep: a morning news show.

Additionally, each episode of Hawk Talk ends with a five minute, student-written and produced Examen. Before Hawk Talk was created, the Examen was read aloud by teachers in all first period classes. Hawk Talk has given students a vehicle to write their own reflections.

Joke Photo 1.png
Each week, one student is selected to be the host of this segment. The joke is created by the student, while the trivia focuses on obscure faculty facts. All students are able to host this segment, as the winner of the previous week's trivia question gets to host the next episode's segment.
